Pig Ears – Easy Homemade Dog Treats

I recently came into a whole passle of pig ears… Yes really, that sort of thing happens to me:) We actually raised a bunch of pigs with friends and nobody else wanted the ears! Can you believe it! Pig ears happen to be one my dogs favorite treats, but at about a $2.00 a piece, and the fact that he eats them in like 30 seconds he doesn’t get them very often. I was super pumped to try making them myself!

The Original DIY Homemade Laundry Soap

Homemade Laundry Soap

This is it guys, this is the recipe I have used to make all of my family’s laundry soap for the past 4+ years. Its easy, fast, cheap… Key components to DIY for me! I can’t even calculate how much money I have saved using this recipe, and my son’s eczema has all but disappeared thanks to me making the switch! I’m not adding a lot of fluff to this post because for me laundry soap is and industrial family necessity, and if you are sitting at your computer or on your phone googling a DIY laundry soap you want it for one of three reasons, to save money, to use a more natural product for your family, or because gosh darn it you hate the grocery store and just want to do it yourself!

Twice Baked Potatoes

Being from Northern Maine, Aroostook County to be exact. I have come to know a lot about potatoes! I grew up with them being a staple of our diet, and the farming of them is literally a part of the Aroostook County culture (we even got 3 weeks off of school in the fall for “Harvest Break”) It’s a well-loved tradition that at its root, provides a livelihood for countless families. Needless to say, we do potatoes a lot, and we do them a lot of ways! I must say, a plain old baked potato is probably one of my favorite foods. Every now and then though it is fun to dress it up a little, this recipe for twice baked potatoes is sooooo delicious and easy! Pair with a green salad for a quick and simple weeknight meal. Enjoy

Backyard Foraging Episode 2 – Wild Violets

Backyard Foraging – Wild Violets

violets small

Though pretty, many people look at wild violets as a horrible weed that quickly takes over lawns and gardens. They are further frustrated by the fact that wild violets are really hard to control. But I have good news. Instead of looking at them as a scourge to your existence, wild violets should be viewed as useful wild plants that you can enjoy instead of hate! (more…)
